computer won't boot up
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:24:09 AM »
The power supply is ok, the hard drive is spinning, the fan on the mother board comes on and stays on but I have a blank monitor. I fear the motherboard is shot. I have an ACER that is less than a year old any tips would be appreciated.

Is the machine getting to the POST?

If not it could be a RAM issue...

What are the specs of your system? CPU, OS, memory etc...

Did you make any changes to the system prior to this happening? hardware or software

The computer was running when the monitor just went dark. Noone was operating the machine at the time. I could hear the fan on the motherboard on and that was it. Now when I turn on the computer the fan comes on immediately and I can feel the hd spinning but no signal ever gets to the monitor, it justs keeps blinking

Does the monitor power indicator light up? Have you tried a different monitor?

Let's back up to here. How do you know the power supply is OK? What is the  make, wattage and age of this?

It may not have been the proper one...
