    network connections
    « on: June 22, 2007, 10:22:22 AM »
    i am having problems with a dell optiplex gx60, 2.8ghz P4
i've just loaded xp with sp2, and avg as well as installing all the drivers from dell website using the tag number for the pc everything went on fine bar the network driver so when i plug in the ethernet there is a little yellow tryangle in thte system tray saying little or no connection,

i contacted dell they just gave me a link to the dell site where the driver was so i reinstalled it again no luck there though still the same problem.
i bought a D-link network card 530tx the drivers were already installed when i loaded the OS onto the machine.

I reinstalled the drivers anyway after trying to connect but still the same problem please help i am puzzled by this could it be the motherboard?
    many thanks
    all the best

Are you on a network or are you plugged directly into your modem? Have you tried calling up your ISP and see what's goin on?

EDIT: Oh, and did you have another network card before this one? If so try uninstalling the drivers for it.

there was no other card drivers  as i did a clean install of xp, i am not on a network,
i have another pc which i take the ethernet cable out of and plug it back into the dell so i know that the inteernet connection is ok itself, the i have tried the network card in both computers and it works fine, it's just the Dell that is giving me problems,
many thaks for your help though if you could offer and other suggestions that would be great
      many thanks

Loading an OS usually wipes out anything on a drive...

Try the card in a different slot in the Dell and check the BIOS to make sure the onboard NIC is disabled.

Hi Patio thanks for the advice i have looked in the bios it was on, but there are two other options 1. w/PXE  2. w/RPL does it make a difference?
that should not interfear with the nic card anyway should it?
        cheers mate
