Please post as much information as possible:

1)  What were you doing before this happened?

2)  Any hardware or software changes?

3)  What malware protection do you have installed?

4)  Is your operating system currently up-to-date?

5)  Any other information that may help us resolve your issue.

1)  Hopefully, this was a clean install with a legitimate copy of Windows 2000.

2)  When you download software, files, or any applications...you can specify where you want the programs to be downloaded and/or installed to.  Simply use the "Save In:" drop down menu when you want to save something and select the destination of the file, folder, or application.  It's easier to save it to your Desktop...this way...you'll always know where it is.

3)  Any virus, adware, or spyware protection you have installed on you PC.

4)  I recommend you update your operating system by going to Windows Update.  If you're having problems downloading and installing high-priority updates, then you either have a virus, corrupted files, or an illegal copy of the operating system.

5)  At the present...no...but it does help when you're downloading and/or uploading files to and from the Internet.

1)  Can't help you if it isn't a legitimate version of 2000.

2)  Glad we have that settled.

3)  You may want to make sure your malware protection is updated...boot into Safe Mode and run a full system scan.  Let your malware protection quarantine and/or delete any infections it finds...reboot and run it again, normally.

4)  Understood, but since your version of Windows is not legit, you'll have issues validating and updating.  Save a few bucks and buy a legitimate one.

5)  P2P is an accident waiting to happen...especially if you have a non-legit verion of Windows 2000.

I suggest you buy a legitimate version of Windows.
