what type of RCA do I need for this speaker
    « on: June 27, 2007, 02:26:38 PM »
    Hi all,
I purchased a speaker from a market selling second-hand stuff,
but I got a problem, coz the speaker does not come with any connector cord or cable for connecting to amplifier.
Here is a picture about what I see on the back side of the speaker:

I don't know what type of RCA I need to have to connect the speaker to my 5.1 amplifier.

Give us a close up of the connectors on the back.

BTW...an RCA jack is an RCA jack...whether it's male or female.

Can't tell from the picture...have you visited your local Radio Shack ? ?
They could probably tell in no time what is needed...

It almost looks like a coaxial connection which is used for Cable.

Do you mean I need a coaxial audio cable, patio?

I got the picture from eBay.
But it can describe what I mean.

I think I need a RCA to Hi-Fi cable adapter.
My amplifier only supports RCA output.

              I am sorry, honvetops!
There should be no this thing in the world, right?
So, how about if I choose to buy a brand-new stereo amplifier instead.
WHat should I pay attention to before I pay for it.
              Any ideas?

You don't need to be sorry to me, I thought you were gone, NO Harm*
Can you just take the speaker with you to a vendor when you choose to get yourself the RCA cables?

Hmmm...the speaker is just too heavy for me not mention to lug it for a long distance...
honvetops, I just found something which may be helpful to my question:

What do you think of them?

                  ...Banana jacks.

Those terminals on the speaker look like "banana jack binding posts". My Eltax Silverstone speakers have connectors like the ones shown in the speaker picture, they are dual-purpose, you can insert banana jack plugs in them, or you can turn them them with your fingers and unscrew them like threaded nuts and insert bared wire ends underneath and do them up tight again.

I think the "Banana jack"  should fit my speaker's input, but not sure if I can plug
RCA to the tail of the Banana Jack. Hope the "banana jack" can serve as an adapter for RCA

I am fairly sure those plugs you showed

have holes in to take the bare speaker wires, you just push on the contact pin (against a spring) (or else unscrew the knurled part of the plug) and insert the bared wire end, and release the pin or do up the knurled part, and this traps the wire.

So you just need to strip back about 1 cm of bare wire on each speaker wire.

                      Thanks, contrex!l
Now that I have found a long wire, two "banana jacks", just lack of a pair of "RCA jack".

You need the RCA jacks for where? To plug in the amplifier?
