Upgrade 1.1 USB with a 2.0 USb HUB

Have done some research and all signs point to me having to upgrade with an internal PCI Card to get 2.0 USB speed. Was wondering if anybody knew if it was possible to upgrade the 1.1 USB with an external 2.0 HUB?

You could buy a USB2 hub, but it would work at USB1.1 speeds, so there would be no point other than to get more USB ports at the same speed.
Why are you against buying a (cheaper, and less messy) internal USB2 PCI card?

Yeah i have the same trouble every time i insert my memory stick it says this device can perfome faster or something like found high speed usb 2.0.

 How do i upgrade my usb drivers to be 2.0 high speed???

You have to buy an internal USB2 PCI card.
You cannot do anything else to increase the speed, upgrading the drivers will not help.
Before you buy anything, try it on all of your USB ports, some of them may be USB2 rather than USB1.1.

I think all of them are USB1.1 but they are all onboard.
My 250Gig HD crashed the boot sector is gone and i can't load any OS but i'm using it as a slave HD and its working just to store all my games and Music and Movies.

If it reports that you have   "Full" support for USB,  then you have 1.1 .

Perhaps Calum or someone else here could grab a copy and run it, and then let you know what it says when it finds 2.0.

I just got "full".
But it was made in 1999, and doesn't mention supporting XP, or in fact any OS other than 95 or 98.
Another way to check is to go to Device Manager and look under USB Controllers.
An "Enhanced" device indicates USB2 support.

I also ran it and got the "Full support" response.  And, I do have USB 2.0.  I was curious to run it because my motherboard's original onboard USB specifications were USB 2.0 on the rear ports and USB 1.1 on the front, the front ports being connected by wire to pins on the motherboard.  I later installed an PCI USB card which provided two additional USB 2.0 ports in back but also had pins on it which allowed me to disconnect the wires from the front ports from the motherboard and connect them to the card, thereby making all my USB ports 2.0.

So, apparently "Full support" either means 2.0 or it just means your system is capable of USB, whether 1.1 or 2.0.

Well, it depends on exactly what it was intended to do, right?  But, clearly, it does not tell whether a system has full support at the 1.1 level or 2.0.  As Calum said, Device Manager indicates 2.0 when it says "Enhanced controller ...".

Since that patch is for Win XP SP1, I gather it would not be needed if SP2 is installed.

From memory,  I thought that the term for USB 1.1 was  "Full Speed",  and for 2.0 was "High Speed".     I could be wrong... haven't checked.

I was equating "full support"  with "full speed",   and thinking it was reporting that the ports were 1.1.
Apparently, I was wrong.

Thanks for your help! Internet has been down last couple of days because of the thunger storms here in the Dallas area.

My computer also will automatically restart if I place something that is USB 2.0 in my 1.1 is that normal? Or could it be a sign of another problem?
