am just wondering which is the better of the 2 ntfs or fat 32 ?

Depends on what you want to use it for.

NTFS

More secure, less defragmentation etc.  You should really only use FAT if you want to use a duel boot system
with an OS that can't read NTFS partitions.  i.e windows 98 or earlier
