PROBLEMS WITH RECORDING MUSIC.

HI I ONLY KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT COMPUTERS, I NEED HELP. I WANT TO RECORD MUSIC FROM MY WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER TO A C.D.
It keeps saying i need to try a different brand but when i persist and it does record but i think it does in data form not music so disc will not work in stereo or car for example/ My computer is a crappy one and has Windows xp. Ims orry i do not know much more about computer. My dad said i need to tell the c.d that it is a music one not data but we dont know how! I have tried three different brands which cost me loads of money and nothing works. all i wanna do is listen to music i like in the car!!!! aaarrrggghh! its driving me crazy. About 6 months ago it recorded fine. please help me!
