Adding more memory
« on: July 08, 2007, 05:04:25 AM »
Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about adding more memory to my computer. I have this memory in my computer now.

CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Since memory is rather cheap now I found this and wonder if it's compatible with my memory.

OCZ Performance Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

Thanks for any help

    you have  2#  512 sticks in there now   PC3200 ...  Corsair *

you want to add that  1#  gig stick ( OCZ )  to your  2#  512 sticks ?

will it work, yes...BUT,  your system will not be in a dual channel mode and the mixing of  two 512 sticks and 1  1# gig stick will not be optimum for your computer.

    1. get 2 more 512 sticks  OR

    2. sell your 512 sticks and get  2#  1 gig sticks

pc3200  + different brands is ok but it is not "optimal" to do it.

    Thank you for your reply

If I've read the description of the memory I listed correctly it is 2x512.

    Have I missed something ?

wooops  , that was a "i just woke up answer, sorry.....

yeah all 4 of those will work together, your system  "might" need some tweaking after installation... "some" mobo's  have issues with all 4 slots filled.....

a lot of mother boards default to 5-5-5-15  settings....  check the latency timings on what you have now compared to what the 2 new sticks have. You might consider changing the timings in the bios if so inclined or just let it run on default if not a power user....
