I am not 100% sure if I have Demoshield.  But I think I do cuz I get the error message that there is something wrong and Demo has to close send a report

The Dvd Rewriter is LG Super Multi DVD Rewriter  GSA-H22N  or the GSA H22L model
Their site is www.lgservice.com   or www.lge.com

Everything you said happened.  I have WMPlayer 9.  I used a store bought cd

The only thing I got the dvd to read was up to the main menu of a game cd.  But when you click to install the game it stops again

Twylla.......  It looks like Demoshield may be on the installation cd that came with your new dvd burner. Could you check and confirm that ?
If thats the case , it might be an idea to remove it ( using the add/remove in the control panel and then reinstall it and see if anything changes.
The other thing you might try is getting the latest WMP ...... I think it's WMP11 and give that a try . http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

Do you have any other media players installed that you could try ?

Well that suggests to me that the drive is reading ........... when it stops, is there any sort of error message ?

What we have to do is get the dvd/cd drive reading a cd and then do a format and a clean install of XP .

This would be the latest firmware upgrade for that drive.....

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

Twylla ..... Hi again ....... I was just talking to one of the other members (Fed) re your issue and probably the best thing to do would be to wipe your hard drive and do a clean install of XP .......
So ....You mentioned earlier that you had the cds for your programs .....
Is there anything you really must have off that hard drive ?  If the answer is
no ..... then do the following.

reboot your machine and enter the bios.........
change the boot sequence to cd/dvd ....1st boot ....then exit
put your XP cd in the drive and reboot your machine ....... XP should start to load ........ follow the instructions ..........
If your not clear on anything , just ask.

That is what I thought too is that I would have to do a clean install.  But I was kinda scared to if the dvd didnt work.

What would happen if I did what you said but the dvd isnt working right yet?
I am scared I am going to lose all use of my computer.  I dont have another to use while I get help to fix it :-\

Twylla ..... As I see it , you aren't able to access all your old files .......
So I would have faith and do the format and clean install.

Hi guys I am back.  Look how long that took  :'(

Well it didnt work to say the least.  Its worse now than before.  I cant get it to do anything.  So I had to wait a get a new computer

What would the symptoms be for needing a new hard drive?
