pc wont boot corrupted/missing file

it says corrupted or missing sys file press r to repair - it keeps trying to
reboot - what do i do? a boot disk? how do i make one? i have a win xp
and a win 2000 pro upgrade cd. this pc was upgraded to xp from nt.

i have a cd rom and a zip drive. help!!!

You will need an XP CD to use the Recovery Console to fix the problem and or do a repair install.
Do you have an XP CD ? ?

yes but the cd wont boot! it works for ive played cds on it

If the CD won't boot then it's not a genuine XP CD is it ? ?

    are you sure that the bios is set to boot from the cd before the hard drive?
