    Welcome to CHF Cabra!
    I see that you know what your doing. (although your CPU speed is a little to fast so fast that it is impossible)
    But I don't really understand the problem.
    Your help and support doesn't work or you can't see you system specs?

      As I understand it his System Information is displaying Help and support instead of what it should be showing... but I think we need you to give some more details cabra  because I'm a bit unsure of the problem as well.

      btw Jonas the cpu speed is correct:
      http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_13041%5E13076,00.html

      Did you by chance get the actual speed
      CPU Speed: 1982.1 MHz
      confused with the CPU model?

      Thanks to both of you for your replies.
      To be clear---If I click Start--Program-Accessories-System tools-System Information,
      I see Help and Support-----not sys specs.
      If I click Start--Help and Support-- that is normal
      What other info do you require??

      Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
      Let it run to completion and re-boot.

        Patio has spoken again and again these are great words.
        I would also try start -> run -> type "CHKDSK /X /F"

          For the drive with windows on (the one where you need to restart to do a chkdsk) you can try pressing pause on your keyboard. For any other drives you can type cmd in run and then in the new window you type "chkdsk drive: /X /F" (replace "drive" with the drive letter you want to scan, "d:" for example)

          But have you tried doing this yet?

            All that blank space.

            Hi,
            Sorry I goofed somewhere. To sum up I have ran all the checks I was asked to do and there was no problems found. I have downloaded a program "lookinmypc" which does the same job as system info, so I will leave it at that until a solution is found.
            Dont want to waste anymore of your time.
            Thank you all for your help.

            Further to this problem I found his:-

            Msinfo32 - System Information (Error or Missing)

            Odd msinfo32.exe problem. msinfo32 mystery solved. (written by Vampirefo, furnished by Martin)

            <Quote>

            I finally figured it out, after running test after test. A index.dat file has been deleted, and that's why when some run msinfo32 they get the help center instead of system information.

            I had this problem, and just now got it figured out, I restored a new image and system information was working great, I then ran Spider which cleans temp files, I saved the report rebooted and system information was not working.

            I looked at what spider deleted and I found it deleted a index.dat here E:\\WINDOWS\\PCHEALTH\\HELPCTR\\OfflineCache\\index.dat
            I opened and image and restored just this dat, and now my system information is working, so this dat file is the cause for the problem.

            </Quote>
            could someone explain how I can" restore new image" or Index .dat to see if it works
            Thank you

              I think that by "restored a new image" the poster meant that he restored windows from a backup image he had. So you would need to have made a backup image to be able to restore from one.
              Regarding restoring index.dat your best bet would probably be to get it from someone else. You can try mine if you want to experiment.

              SFC should have corrected this...

                  Go back to page 1 and find the post where I suggested you tried a replacement file. I appended my index file to that post as index.zip. Just unzip it and you should be ready to try it out.
