USB2 Hassles
« on: July 18, 2007, 01:00:23 AM »
Hi there,
My P4 (running XP home) doesn't recognise an IPOD plugged into the USB, said it needed USB2 - thought it already had that but oh well, so I had it fitted at a dealer but the IPOD is still not recognised and now neither is my digital camera. Any ideas?
Regards
Tony

    ... had it fitted?   ???

Did your digital camera work with your computer before you took it to that shop?  Can you get any USB device (printer, flash drive, etc.) to work now?

The page you linked shows many different things.  Exactly what did you have in mind for him?

He may need a USB controller card such as  SYBA PCI USB 2.0 4+1 port controller card Model SD-V2-5U - Retail

Hey there. Had a USB Controller Card fitted. Have 2 cameras, 1 Sony, 1 Kodak. Both worked before the upgrade now only the Kodak works but not the Sony. Ipod still not recognised and error message saying it needs a USB2 Upgrade when the Ipod is inserted into the USB.

If you have ever heard of "Costco" the wholesale store they have a nifty external USB drive thing I picked one up for my old computer and it worked with USB 2 compatible things Ipod/DigiCams Etc.. They were only like $15 bucks canadian. You only have to plug the usb into the old usb hub then plug the cord in and Bam it works.

OK, so that shop installed a USB Controller Card, which is what has been recommended here in previous replies.  I'd take it back to the shop, with your camera and iPod, and show them it doesn't work.  They need to make this right.

By the way, after you got the computer back from that shop, you had some USB ports that you did not have before they installed the card, right?  Did they show you which ports those are, before sending the computer home with you?  Are those the ports you've tried using with your cameras and iPod?

I have only been using the new USB2 ports for the cameras & iPod - starting to get the feeling there's something wrong with the card.

I would take soybeans advice above...take it back to the shop.
