    Well that wasn't the thing that worked.

    I'm not exactly sure what fixed it, but I put in a new Ethernet cable, is it possible that my old one was corrupt? It works fine now.

        Perhaps the copper pins at the end of your old ethernet cable had broken. That can sometimes happen if you use it for several years.
