Computer not starting up correctly...
« on: July 28, 2007, 12:40:01 PM »
Hey people a family member of mine has a problem.

He ran disk defragmenter this morning for the first time since he got it 3 years ago. He left it on and went out for 5 hours. When he came back it was only 60% complete, so he left it for another hour, but it had turned itself off.

I've been working with computers for quite some time and have a lot of knowledge and experience so the first thing I thought was that it's just overheated. It was in quite a warm room and had been running at least 6 hours.

He keeps saying it'll turn off before it loads completely no matter what mode he runs it in, so I've told him to leave it till tomorrow and to keep the room well ventilated.

If this doesn't work what could be the problem? It'll stump me lol!

Thanks!

Check all the power management settings in Control Panel...

Also dis-able Hibernate as well.

If it hasn't been done in 3 years he needs to let it run to completion...
