    Window istllation on a hard disk.

    can one install Win XP operating system on a hard disk on a different machine and run it on another machine.Urgent solution needed1

    I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Do you want to install XP on another computer or do you want to install XP on a HDD then insert that HDD on another machine?

        It is possible but not advisable. Windows doesn't like major hardware changes so it might not run when you swap the hdd into a different machine.

        This has about a 10% chance of being successful....on top of possibly running afoul of MS's liscence agreement.

        If you took a hard drive out of a PC and put it into an identical machine you would still have Windows activation issues. The Hardware Key uses serial numbers contained in HDD controller chips, RAM chips and the BIOS and Windows would barf at the hardware changes.
