    umm then this seems like a hardware issue?? is the cd a geniue windows cd and has no straches or dirt on it.

    Well, I don't think it would be a hardware issue.....as for the disc....Scratches  ::)

    I have a solution that removes scratches, and I used it once.  I will try it once more and post and unpate when I am done.

      scratches can cuz a freeze up try to remove as many as you can

        Well, I had an orginal copy, so I guess that it was a deep scratch I couldn't get at, or it was just my hardware.  Either way, I ended up backing up about 500 gigs of info and doing a format.  Thank you very much for your help though.  The problem is fixed, and hopefully I won't have any problems with my registry (problem that started it all.......... >:() any time soon.
