I don't know how to do that and I am scared to CLEAN anything. I don't want to erase by mistake. The word 'clean' scares me.

Any other ideas or ways to search???

12,570 files appeared, but none were what I am looking for. (It was all sample pics, bullets, lines, logos and other crap that must have came with my computer)  PC's hard drive is almost full. Can I delete them?
      No do not delete them.
Did you look for hidden files also? I am not sure those file are on your computer. Because searching for sth is very straight forward and the suggestions given here are pretty enough to get what you may want. I am afraid they were cookies or temporary files and have been automatically deleted after some time.

Can you try START>SEARCH>For Files and Folders....
Type *.zip into the top search field and see if you recognise any of the results.

Why not delete them? They are nothing important. Just crap that came with PC.

Yes, I checked the box SEARCH IN HIDDEN FILES. I found none of the porn.

If I am not mistaken, EVERYTHING is stored somewhere on the hard drive, meaning even if they were cookies or temp files, they would still be somewhere retrievable. Am I wrong?

Of course nobody who posts on here looks at pornography and/or tries to hide it from employer, teacher, partner or parents, so any guidance is bound to be strictly theoretical. Having said that, I can think of a number of strategies that a person might use to hide any sort of material. It is a good idea to protect credit card, bank account records, and if you work from home, employment and work related information, particularly if your work involves protecting client confidentiality. In that latter case, I would use pro-level encryption and firewalling.

In fact, I would state that any individual has the right to their privacy, as long as they are not breaking the law. I think this point is very important, so I am emphasising it. I might add that a person who stores "xxx porn", "gay porn" and "tranny porn" is not necessarily "sick" at all. So I am not 100% sure about all this. You make him sound awfully bad.

Here we appear to be talking about a partner hiding (possibly not illegal) *censored* stuff from a non-tech-savvy partner who knows you don't have vast sums of money to spend on professional data recovery.

Only a fool would store any such material in plain sight. By that I mean as visible and playable document, picture or video files. For example "bank account details.doc" or "credit card numbers.xls" or "sexy cheerleaders.mpg" or whatever. One pretty obvious first step would be to place it in a password protected zip or rar archive, as has apparently been done. However, it may be that the errant husband was not too clever, because from what I can gather, although the archives were password protected, the contents filenames listing would still have been visible, leading to knowledge of the type of material being hidden. In other words, he had neglected to encrypt the filenames. It's no good passwording a zip file if Mom can see that it's full of files like hotbikini001.jpg, even if she cannot extract or view them. If, in addition, the zip or rar file's extension has been altered or deleted, a double click in Windows won't even open it.  MomNEEDShelp, how did you know that this stuff was "teen porn"? It sounds like the "protection" was fairly basic if you (a) found the files (b) were able to tell what they contained.

So I would be searching for suspiciously large files with either no extension, or an unusual one. Maybe hidden files in a hidden partition. But I would not hold out a lot of hope of finding anything, especially if this guy could have had access to the computer since they were last viewed by you.

Files that have been deleted or placed in the recycle bin could well have been overwritten by other data. It is definitely not true that everything that ever happened on a computer is "there somewhere". Also, it is possible to set limits on temp and cookie storage space, so that when it becomes full, older stuff is automatically deleted. There are a number of such privacy settings that can be adjusted to make observation by others a difficult task.

Ok. Let me first say again that he has not been back since these XXX sites were viewed. I had a feeling he was up to no good when he walked out on me & the baby so I went over to his side of the PC. I just happened to open his FAVORITES and there were folders named by him and a few were TEEN HARDCORE PORN. I could care less what other porn he looked at. I know all guys do it. My fear is that we have a very young daughter. Ya see, even if the girls on the TEEN sites looked like they were 16-18, the fact of the matter is, he was purposely looking for porn of females who are young.  I need to see what kind of porn he was viewing. My goal is to protect my daughter. We all know looking at porn is not a crime, but again, I have a 3 year old girl that I love dearly.

My friend had found the 'missing'  folders once before without a password, but it took lots of clicking and searching. (Hours)
The page she found was a white page. On the white page was 3 columns of yellow folders. (Not zipped) They were only numbered, not named. The numbes were about 10 numbers long. (Example: 700033231) When you clicked on each of the folders, hundreds of 'stamp-size' photos came up. All were pornography.

For some odd reason, the links/folders in his favorites are NOW password protected. How can that happen, if again, he hasn't been here since I last saw it????

One last thing....... Best Buy found a large folder named QUARINTINE containing many other folders which were password protected. They are numbered files and say .zip after them.

Hopefully I have given alot of info so someone out there can help me. I do appreciate everyones help and I hope you can understand why this is so important to me.

            THANKS MUCH!!!!!

Well, I must confess that I had a thing for girls aged 16 to 18 myself. I thought they were very attractive, and I actually dated a number of girls in that age group. Of course, I was aged 16,17 and 18 at the time. I do not believe that makes me a pervert. Here in Europe we set the age of consent at 15 or 16. So he sounds like a normal guy. He has a normal  liking for young women. He is most likely no danger whatever to his daughter. I feel you are over reacting and/or looking for an excuse to punish him in some way.

            On another note:

            Good ol "Possible Causes' list:
            Male *censored* desires
            Pervertedness
            Law-abiding pornography sites
            or,
            VIRUS/NASTY ADWARE!

            Anyways, with that said:
Yes, it could be that your husband is perverted, but also take this into consideration:
Though it said "Teen", in the United States, you can be as young as 18 to be featured in *censored* content.
This being said, it would be legal. (And many pornography sites probably look for the youngest looking of the 18 year old crowd)
Thus, it would not be illegal, and probably not very perverted... or illegal, but certainly the whole idea or testosterone... and *censored* desire

But, it could also be adware or a virus on your computer. Viruses may edit your Favorites list to add more virus sites, and/or pornography and other related materials. It may also store inappropriate images on your computer, same as some sort of nasty adware

What virus and adware protection do you have on your computer?

(Plus, in my defense, my advice about deleted data being recovered wasnt that bad...)

Since I posted my rather pompus (I now feel) sermon, I have remembered that I once helped a friend clear out a lot of *censored* spam from his favorites, cookie folders, etc. He had been innocently surfing for game cheats and movie subtitles and his Internet Explorer got hijacked by dozens of pornographic popup ads, and his cookie folder was full of those little "stamp size" images, and his favorites folder had got absolutely jammed with items that were very explicitly titled, just like has been described, things that no sensible porn surfer would EVER leave for others to see. (Just guessing there, naturally.) His desktop had saucy shortcuts and there was even a "dialler" downloaded to hijack his (non-existent) dialup connection onto a $2.00 a minute scam number.

So it may not be as it seems, MomNEEDShelp.

I think the last two guys are 100% right for their advaice.
Porn is not illegal and its illegal to search for things in someone's pc if they dont belong to you MomNEEDShelp dont be a threat to yourself.

We as guys and me enjoy porn and aspecially 15 - 20 i like them.
So leave the pc alone and do some protection or productive work.
With the information given to you on this forum there is no way could have missed the pics on that pc it would have been found and visible dear.

I'm from Africa (Namibia) and you can see my pic on the side so there is no files in that pc that you are looking for. Do you know of remote desktop? He is very smart and could possibly cut the pics if they ever existed LOL. Do you know computer viruses yes you dont MOM.

I'm sorry but if you fear your husband divorce him and be free n live with no fear.
Good luck but porn is the best:D

Ok, I partially agree with the last few posts, challenging the OPs motives. Though I must say that it's getting a bit off topic and this is a computer forum, not a pornography or family guidance forum.

We do not know whether or not the father has responded to the allegations, we do not know for sure if there are illegal images which he has intentionally saved.

I am sure that the OP would have weighed up most of the factors, and they seem to have decided that the risk, based on the images outweighs any positives. They have decided to, i assume, claim full custody of the child, in some fear of molestation, or abuse?

@Shynnie, why do I feel that many of your posts are a bit, no offense, weird. We know some, or most, men view pornography but the OP feels that they have been obtained by intentionally searching for illegal / underage models. If this was indeed the case I personally have no problem with her choices. How can we judge, it's her life and she can take whatever measures she'd like, in order to ensure her and her daughter's safety.

I just sincerely hope that we have not aggravated the situation at hand and that MomNEEDShelp has not taken any offense, I hope for the best and that her problem is resolved in whatever way is seen fit.

                I am 100% in agreement.

I go on a lot of forums. Often I have seen people preface requests for help doing something a little "dubious", with a sad little story about e.g. how they installed a 30 day trial of Adobe Premiere and then their mother died, so they never used it in the 30 days, and now they need to use it to complete their college course so they can support their 8 brothers and sisters, two of whom are blind, etc, so could somebody "pleeeeeze" give them a crack, and after a while one gets a bit cynical about it all. No doubt many of the requests are genuine, but which ones?

Backup what data you need. format, and do a clean install.

I have no idea why this is not an option.
