Intermittent connectivity
« on: August 17, 2007, 03:31:19 AM »
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100, a Netgear MR314 router, and a Linksys wireless card.......but my connection comes and goes.  There are no issues with interference, the router is less than 10 ft. away from the card with absolutely nothing in between.  I had the router and card for my old IBM laptop, perhaps I need new, updated equipment???  If so, would appreciate any suggestions for quality/reliable, yet relatively inexpensive products.

Did you try updating the driver?
    What OS do you have?
Did you disable the possibility of windows to shut the NIC off?
    What protection do you have?

Guess I left some of my info off, sorry.

My OS is Windows XP Home edition......I've tried getting new drivers for the MR314 and none are available so that's not a option.  The router is nearly 5 yrs. old as well as the wireless card for my laptop.

My current protective service is McAfee but that was also my mode on my old laptop.  This intermittent problem has occurred ever since I got the new Dell.

If you had to pick new, reliable, but relatively inexpensive equipment what would you suggest???

What you probably need is an XP compatable driver for the Linksys card.

edit: If the computer has built in wireless, you should disable it or remove the Linksys.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
