HELP! With "Log on to Windows"
« on: August 06, 2007, 08:37:46 AM »
I have an old computer from work that I am trying to use at home. It has WINDOWS 2000Professional and when I turn it on, I get the Log on to Windows screen that asks for user name, password and Log on to:....

I need to reset the user name and password or bypass this screen so I can actually use the darn thing. Any help would be appriciated for this computer dummy......

Thanks,

K :)

I wish it was that easy. Our IT guy moved out of state and we have to pay a support person from another agency to fix our computer problems. I wonder if I had the startup disk or something I could do it that way?? Thanks for working with me on this.

If you have your data backed up a format and clean install is the way to go here...

So I need to have the install cd's and then I can basically clear everything out of memory and start from scratch??  I will look for them tomorrow and then I am sure I'll need help once I get them in my little hands!! Thanks guys for this so far, seems like you both know the answers, one of you is just speedier! ;) Have a super rest of the day!

When I am trying to find the startup disk from work, do I need to have the exact one that came with this compter or will any windows 2000 startup disk do? And if I am not able to find the one I need, is there any other way that i would be able to fix this problem without? Again, appriciate the help..................K

A startup disk is a set of floppies that will get you into a damaged OS...they will not repair or re-install Win2K.

You need a Win2k CD that says Microsoft all over it. Ask The IT people from work...they should have a few.
