    Laptop works.... laptop doesnt
    « on: August 15, 2007, 09:55:29 PM »
I took my laptop out to my study group and used it there, it worked fine for the whole time, I shut it down and packed it up. I took it out a home and plugged it in without turning it on. The plugged in light and the charging light were on. I went to turn it o and the hdd started to go, and it turned off. The charging light disappeared and the plugged in light started flashing orange every half a second. There are no user manuals avaliable to download on any website so i dont know what it means. I am using a toshiba 4100x dvd running windows 2000 pro. pIII 128mb ram. 6.4 gig hdd.

Hmm, I don't prefer any of those computer brands..

So your laptop doesn't work at all now or does it only do it sometimes when being turned on?

I'd say a motherboard or power supply issue, but I couldn't be sure, maybe you fried something?

I may have tossed the laptop bag containing the laptop onto the couch, and i might have done something then. I will open it up tonight and check for loose cables. The charging circut is fine because i could charge it up completley.

The laptop starts to turn on then it completlet shuts off. The hdd starts to power on, and the floppy drive checks for disks. It was working only 20 minues before that.

I purchased the laptop at the ballarat computer swapmeet, and i think he gave me a 3 month warranty. It has been 3 months already. It wont turn on at all so it must be a power supply problem.

It is possible, that after tossing it on the couch...something came loose.

Check to make sure the memory sticks are properly seated and the hard drive is properly seated as well.

You can Google online for a repair manual for your laptop and pay around $10 US dollars for it.

OK. I  will try that tonight. I stuffed up the screw that holds the keyboard in so i will have to find my pocket knofe with the pliers and get it out. Our computers are on a network and we used to argue over the one computer. I will look tonight and try and find any loose wires e.t.c

I do believe Saviour hit the nail on the head.

                          Loose memory or hard drive.

I have checked both of these. Last night i couldent find any loose cables and the hdd and floppy as well as the memory are correctly inserted. Could it be a faulty floppy drive because that is the thing thet comes on forst. I tried to disconnect it but i couldent get the cable out to see if it would make a difference.
