on my old computer when the hdd made the ticking sound and would load i would hit it, and sometimes it would then click and start but that is not sound advice and would'nt really recommend doing it. your new hdd has windows on it?

Is it your new hdd that is ticking?
A ticking hdd is a bad thing and usually means the hdd is failing.
If you tell us the brand of the hdd we can point you to the drive maker's hdd diagnostic utility. It can usually tell you if your hdd is failing.
