Internet connected, but "page cannot be displayed"
« on: August 25, 2007, 03:05:51 PM »
I'm having a problem with my wireless router. It has been working fine for two weeks, only disconnecting randomly several times after a long time without use, however today it is not working. On the main computer with the modem it says it is connected, however when I click Internet Explorer I get the page cannot be displayed. On my other computer with the wireless it shows as connected even showing the speed and signal strength, but again when I click IE the page cannot be displayed. ANY help at all would be great...I have reset the router and unpluged and restarted everything. I am using a DLINK router and a comtrend ADSL modem if that means anything...

So no computer connected to that router have access to the internet?
Have you checked several web pages to make sure it isn't an issue with one page?
And you have restarted both your modem and router?

If the answer is yes to all of the above, I think it's either a problem with your phone line or your internet service provider. Either way you'll need to call your ISP.

    EDIT:
I just remembered... try connecting a computer directly to the modem and see if you can get internet access that way.

I did connect the computer to the modem, that's how i'm able to be on here. But when I connect back to the router I get nothing. But I have the internet with my modem, so I don't think It's my service provider? I'm not really sure though I'm an idiot with computers...

If you get a good connection with the modem but not the router then try re-setting the router...usually a small switch on the back or a pinhole you push a paper clip into.
What DLink is this ? ?
They will have plenty of info on their site...

I have reset the router (held in with a paperclip for 10 seconds) and I still get the same thing...everything says connected, but MSN won't sign in and IE wont display any pages. Thanks for the ideas though!! I'll try anything about now.

By what D Link it's the Di-524 if that is what you mean?

Go to Start / Run and type in command and hit Enter...
From there type in ipconfig /all and hit Enter.
Copy and paste the results and post them here...
