Computer stopped working
« on: August 26, 2007, 12:33:03 PM »
I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas to try.

I've moved my computer's location but on powering up was met with 5 or 6 beeps and then nothing.

One in 20 attempts results in a successful power up but after a few seconds the computer freezes up.

It's about 4 years old.

Is it time to buy a new one?

Thanks

mektek

Count the sequence of beeps exacctly - i.e the no. single and double bleeps and check it against the beep codes listed here http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
    Tiggered - adj : It's been tiggered
A computer that was working until tinkering broke it

The machine being moved looks like a clue here...
Remove all power sources to the machine...take off a side panel and re-seat all components inside especially the RAM and any cards such as NIC or video...

As always when working inside the case take anti-static precautions.

    Thanks for both replies.

I turned it on..........no bleeps...............just a message saying system had recovered from a major incident!!!!

    Thanks

So is it working now?  Perhaps you are getting a different electrical output on the new socket or something has been bumped out of place?
      System specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (up to 3.3 stock V and air)
      ASUS Striker Extreme
      XFX 8600GT XXX Edition
