« on: August 28, 2007, 04:33:21 PM »
Hi, I have a HP lapto that worked perfectly fine this morning and today when I got home from work and turned it on the screen just blinks/flashes constantly. I can see that it books up and goes all the way to the icon screen, i can click to open etc. but it just will not stop flashing. Please help me, what does this sound like??
Thank you.
I am running XP.

It sounds like a failing screen or loose internal connector. Since this is a laptop it isn't easy to troubleshoot. I would turn it in to a repair shop and have them look at it. But if you're feeling adventurous you could try opening it up and have a look around for anything that appears to be loose.

Is this happening when coming out of hibernation? If so, try doing a complete shutdown, wait about 30 min., then reboot. If this works, you may have to stop using hibernation.

Is the reason for using hibernation just a convienence factor ? ?

If you knew how much resources it chewed up when you are in active mode you would maybe reconsider.

I don't find re-boots and startups and shutdowns to be 1/2 the trouble people complain about.
When i startup i'm also doing a personal startup...which means basically i turn my machine on in the morning and then i go get coffee to turn my brain on.
The timing is almost identical as when the first cobwebs have left my brain the computer is ready to do anything i throw at it...
      Just preference i guess.

ok well thanks for the replies BUT i have a new issue, I did feal a little adventurouse and I popped of the outer panel of the screen.
Then I got scared and put it back on BUT it seems to have helped in some way because now it no longer blinks BUT here is the BIG issue, the screen is black UNLESS i use safe mode then everything works fine (other then everything being very large).
I really need some help with this as I just can not afford a repair shop :(
      Please help me :)

The only thing that comes to mind is that if it works properly in safemode but not in normal mode it means it very well could be a driver issue...
Safemode loads generic Windows video drivers...just enough to get any display running.

I would try re-installing your video drivers. Since it is a laptop these will be on your MBoard driver CD that shipped with the machine.

Let us know how it goes,,,

You should be able to get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
