Do the regular maintenence on that machine including diskclean and defrag.
Then update and run all your protection programs...let them fix what they find.
Post back with the results and a list of what programs you ran.

have you followed patio's second instruction about running the protection programs?

        Follow the suggestion above.
Then it sounds to me as if E: is almost full...this is never good even if it is not the partition that contains the OS....
A good rule of thumb is to leave at least 15% of free space on any drive/partition.

Why honvetops? Why would having say "only" 200 GB free on a 500 GB hdd have any performance impact at all? The only reason I can think of would be a severely fragmented drive, which would decrease performance regardless of your amount of free space.

Just wondering what you have heard, because I've always followed a 10-15% rule of thumb like patio suggest.

try cleaning up your E drive.

delete any folders which are useless or contain useless data.

and also you can run ccleaner to help you clean the 'crap' from your computer.

also, you could try uninstalling any unnecessary software.

thanx people i really apreciate the help. but the new problem is when i play any game.the game hangs the computer after 5 or maximum 20 min. I had this problem before for a long long time and i got very frustreated so i changed all my hardware . and it was fixed. but this time i can't. i don't have the money . Can anyone help me on this one? thanx in advance. can anyone tell me what is source of the problem. some say it's the cpu. when the cpu gets hot it stops working for security purpose. so anyone can really tell me what the reason and how could i fix it without changing my hardware.

Well since your talking about games here, what games are you playing? (Need to know if they are too advance for your graphics card.) Also did you update your graphics card from Nvidia?

If you don't have enough video RAM, your game will definately lag.

but, it could still be a virus. it happened to me once. the music would still play, but the screen would freeze.

try running protection programs.  ;) you still haven't done so....

Update your video card, run scans as patio suggested, try changing resolution

All the games i ever played (farcry, need for speed, half-life, halo, resident evil, rollercoster tycoon, etc) all all have hanged while playing.
The computer just hangs without any warning. keyboard, mouse, speakers, and the whole computer hangs. but the fan is still running. i have updated the whole computer drivers. just a week brfore writing this. and i had that problem before updating also. i had ran full virus scan from norton-antivirus 2005, hijackthis, spyware doctor, XoftSpySE, and many more nothing appeared.
