Command prompt at start up in XP
« on: September 15, 2007, 06:32:53 PM »
I keep getting the error message STOP: 0x0000007B (0xC0000034, 0x0000000, 0x00000000) I have tried starting in safe mode, pressing F8 during the boot sequence but always endwith this message. The OS is Windows XP and the PC is a Dell Dimension 2400 with XP pre loaoded. If I cannot get the prompt how can I go about fixing the problem. This is my first ever try at any forum for any purpose !!!!

Exactly do you think you can fix this by getting a Command Prompt panel?

What, exactly, do you think he's going to see in msconfig?  Are you saying it's going to show the error message/coding as a startup item?  I don't believe so.

what i'm thinking,if he will know what cause the error (maybe software / startup ) he can disable the startup using the msconfig.

That is exactly the problem I can get to the boot selection by F2 but it wont pick up the cd drive, it just says F1 to reboot or F8 to set up. the plan was to use the Dell set up disk to reinstall Windows

F8 is a Windows function and will get you to a screen where you can select safe mode to start.

Are you prepared to format the hard drive, which will erase everything?  Have you tried starting your computer with the Dell CD in the CD drive?  If so and it does not boot from the CD drive, you can access your BIOS and set CD-ROM as the initial boot device.

Edit: I believe the Dell Recovery CD will give you an option to do a Repair installation of Windows; this does not format the hard drive.  So, if you have files you are concerned about losing, this procedure is an option which may resolve the problem without erasing the hard drive.
