wHEN i CLICK ON AN ICON OR FOLDER THE SEARCH WINDOW COMES UP!

   aBOUT A WEEK AGO my computer started something weird--when ever I click on a folder the search window pops up--its become impossible to get anywhere on my computer--how do I fix it?  I tried system restore to an earlier date but that didn't fix it.  I am on Windows xp

What protection (antivirus, antispyware, etc.) do you have?

Right click on a folder and look at the context menu, then let me know which of the options in the list is in bold.

I have Norton on my machine.  When I right click on say "My computer" Search is in bold.  "open" isn't an option.

Go to Start/Run and type in the following and hit Enter...

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Re-boot and see if this fixes it.
