« on: September 21, 2007, 01:48:22 AM »
It is possible to install winxp 32-bit & windows xp 64-bit operating systems on SAME PARTITION OF THE DRIVE.
It means on C: drive both os on there,not one os on D: drive.

If it is possible than pls reply me.
I search on it on google,but I can't find any solution.

Thanks in advance.

Nency.

I would install whichever one you want to default boot first. Then when you install the second specify in setup to use the existing partition but a different directory such as Win64. Once installed you can use a program such as X-Setup Pro (http://www.x-setup.net/downloads/ to change the default location of the program files directory. Hope this helps.  ;)

Just correct me.

First I install win xp 32-bit os.
Now I install win xp 64-bit os. In setup I give the path: C:\win 64 & install.
Then both the os there or overwrite!!!!

The other thing what that link. Can you explain it?

Thanks.

Nency.

If you have data, make certain to back it up or you will lose it, maybe not today but eventually. :'(
The path C:\win 64 would need to be shortened to C:\win64
The fact that you are installing into a different directory will let setup know you are setting up a dual boot operating system. It should not overwrite it (but again, be safe, backup data)
The program link is for a useful tweaking program for windows. One of the handy features I have used it for is changing the location of the default directories including your program files location. You can change the default program files directory so that the both windows try to share the directory.
Again I have not done this... It is how I would go about doing it  ;D

o.k. I will check it.

One other question is that as in dual boot we can select the os,how can we do in this manner.
Have any idea?

Installing as said should bring up a menu when you boot asking which operating system you would like to load. You can configure the boot settings by running msconfig and looking under boot options or manually editing the boot.ini file in the root directory.

I believe that it should automatically setup the boot menu but if you would like to know more about editing the boot file you can check out this article http://mirror.href.com/thestarman/asm/mbr/bootini.htm#Ex

Otherwise I believe your boot.ini file should be as follows

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WIN64="Microsoft Windows XP 64 Bit" /fastdetect

Is there a good reason you want two installs of Windows on the same partition ? ?
While it can in fact be done i predict problems with this setup...
