Really need help!
« on: September 26, 2007, 07:54:11 PM »
I am having a problem with my computer!
my husband ran a new virus program the other day called Kaspersky
since runing the program my computer is having a LOT of problems
none of my games work any more not even the ones that I played 30 min before
he ran the program!
Also I can download things to my computer but I can't open the programs
these are small every day things like new webshot photos for my desk top
a program that I have used with out problems for over 10 years now!

I am running XP and use mozilla firefox

How do I find out what Kaspersky "thought" was a virus and put it back!

I have tired restore but that doesn't work it won't let my computer roll back to even
the checkpoint that I set up 1 hr before he ran the scan!

Is there any thing I can do with out just chuckiing it all and formating my
computer and starting again from scratch??

IF you need any other information please contact me

Kaspersky shouldn't have gotten rid of anything it wasn't supposed to...
But if it was a very deep infection you never know.
One thing you can try in the meantime is go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.

If this does not help post back and we'll go over a repair install of XP...

I'd suggest seeing if you can borrow one from a friend...you will need it if you neeed to do any repairs.
The versions have to match i.e. Home or Pro.
Good Luck and let us know...

I ran the Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and it ran then just went off.. didn't say if I had any errors or if every thing was fine so....
it makes me think that if it didn't show any errors that I more then likely not missing files.... something some where must have been clicked off.... such as allow downloads to install ect but I don't have the first clue where to look on my computer....
Also IF something was turned off do I need to go to each users and turn them back on... we have 3 users on this computer one for me one for hubby and one for the kids to play games on....

Street1 I do have restore disk but.... nothing will install on my computer at all! it will let me put any thing in any file I want it just won't let me unpack it or run it or install it!
Games I have played for years that were WinRAR files will no longer play and when I try to install them again I get an error that says sorry but X has encountered a problem and need to close ..... send error report

Error signature
AppName: Winrar.exe     AppVer: 3.70.0.0  ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0      Offset: 1000139b

Have you tried restore in safemode?Try that but, first choose "Last Known
Good Configuration"on safemode boot.
