image/monitor or processor??

Hi, I am in a slight pickle every time I turn on my computer it starts performing incredibly slow once it corrects its self the display properties reads its only in 4-bit colour and is no option for me to improve it, its usually 32-bit (err I think, I dont fiddle with display that much), and because of this i am unable to perform or activate some programmes
pls help

Post alot more info on your system specs, which OS and what happened prior to this and someone will be along shortly...
I suspect corrupted video drivers though...

Did you check the Driver for you Video card ? Is it an onboard video card ?

well I went through my devices and the manager said they all appear to workin properly =$ but here are my specs (not sure what ya need so just gonna offload some random stuff that I think look important):
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
Processor: Intel pentium 4
1GB of RAM and I got XP but im not sure what other specs you want me to display??

Also this error message displays quite often too:

Error!
!!! QueryDosDevice failed.
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

=( even when i tried to do a paste a screenie it came up... =$

It almost sounds like there is a memory leak in some application (s) you have running in the background; it is using memory for something then not clearing it out afterwards.
It would not hurt to check to see what programmes and applications are running in the background, and kill any of them that are not needed (see the BC startup program database for quidance).

Just to reinforce the ideas being pursued in this thread:

Duplicate the issue with your computer and then ctrl + alt + del will bring up the Task Manager. Click on 'Performance' tab. Look under Physical Memory and tell us the numbers for Total and Available.

Also the average number for CPU usage, especially when you duplicate the issue.

Ouch, What O/S ? Windows XP ? Also have you ran any anti virus/spyware ? If so, what software ? Sounds like a mess.

    notice the space

    when box comes up asking to do it on reboot press y and enter and reboot
