Computer Speakers Trouble and Limewire
« on: September 27, 2007, 06:07:48 PM »
Hello all,
I am undergoing computer trouble with my XP home computer.

I have limerwire and use it quite a bit but i am concidering if it ruining my computer badly.

After making a download, when i opened it and received it, the music on the download was working perfectly, but now all action from speakers has stopped. THey make the sound like there working (the fuzzy sound), the light is lit which is showing there on and the volume is turned up but to no avail. I have since uninstalled the download and my sound still refuses to work. Weather it be playing on Sims, or playing music via Windows Media Player no sound comes out.

Also the logo which usually accompanies the 'my music' folder of the music note, which is seen when in the start menu, has dissapeared. I cant see this as a sign of good things.

I ahve looked at the help advice on this, but all my connections seem to be legitimate.

-Have i somewhat installed in virus?
-Should i get rid of limewire?
-How do i fix my speakers?

I would appreaciate the help.
Thank-you

Hello all,
I am undergoing computer trouble with my XP home computer.

I've no doubt some folks will be along soon that will have some suggestions for you.    However, they will probably need more info about your system.

Do you have Anti-Virus software installed/running/up-to-date?
Same for Anti-Spyware?
Same for firewall?

Anything else you can think of, to add to the description of your system and it's software could be useful.

Limewire itself?  or the crap that you may have downloaded with it?     :-\

Most folks will tell you to get rid of Limewire.     It is just the easiest way to word it.
Chances are Limewire itself, and running it,  is not causing problems.
But,  if you really think about it,    Limewire is popular for illegal, copyright violating, software sharing  -  and that is a perfect environment  for the nasty people that like to get you to infect your machine with their dirt -  isn't it?
If you are not careful,  it is akin to playing Russian Roulette.

HOLD IT!

You didn't say that you scanned it with your up-to-date Anti-malware before you opened it!

While you are waiting for someone else to come along, perhaps with more specific steps,   here is a place to do some reading.    Background material, if you will.
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/board,26.0.html

Be sure, at least,  to read the bottom three:
Safe Computing
Computer Cleanup
Spyware/Adware/Virus Removal

That will give you a start.

Chances are that something has corrupted your speaker settings (not neccesarily virus) try unistalling your soundcard and reinstalling with the latest patch etc

you should make restore point before you download anything that you think may hurt your computer.

well, remove limewire, then try uninstalling / reinstallng soundcard like w33man said, including drivers.

then test if sound ok again. if ok, then make new restore point and then reinstall limewire if you want to use it, but now be sure to scan with anti virus / anti spyware program before attempting to open to be sure it is clean file.
