Ad-Aware 2007 will not update or scan
    « on: September 30, 2007, 10:36:29 AM »
I had been using Ad-Aware 2007 without any problems. But now when I try to update it comes up with a box saying "Cannot connect to Web Update server. Server is busy."
Also when trying a scan it has another box that comes up saying "Scanner error: 501 has occurred Description: Can't start Smart Scan, Scanner is busy".
No problem with any other program updating or running scan. No changes recently to PC software except updates of security programs.
    Any suggestions please?
I should add that I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Also posted this on Lavasoft forum without any replies.

      Try re-installing it.

Thanks, but I have tried uninstalling it. Rebooting. Running CCleaner. Reinstalling from Lavasoft site, but still with the same result.

Not finding a solution to the above I have gone back to Ad-Aware SE Personal, which works!

So what you had originally was the non-free version?

Originally I had Ad-Aware SE Personal (Free). Updated to Ad-Aware 2007 (Free). But have had the problems above with it, so went back to Ad-Aware SE Personal, which still updates and scans with no problems.

This is a known issue i have seen on their Forums from time to time...
Apparently dis-abling all your anti-virus programs (disconnected from the web of course) allows the install to complete properly.

Thanks for that info Patio. I think they need to sort out the program as I do not have this problem with anything else I am using. Still it is a freebie! I will stick with the earlier version for a while and try later.
