No worries:)

A number of games from BigFish games such as: Aveyond and Jewel of Darkness, both of which I have paid for.

Thanks for your help, I'll try your suggestions and get back to you:)

The latest version is already installed on the computer in question.  Same goes for IE.

suejay,
Can you please write down exactly what the message says?  There are quite a few things that could be causing problems, and knowing the exact wording of the message may prove helpful.

Out of curiosity, have you contacted BigFish about your problem?

Also, you should move HijackThis to a permanent folder (such as C:\Program Files\HJT).  Scan again and check the following entries...

O9 - Extra button: Run IMVU - {d9288080-1baa-4bc4-9cf8-a92d743db949} - C:\Documents and Settings\sue\Start Menu\Programs\IMVU\Run IMVU.lnk (file missing)

Close all windows (except for HijackThis) and click on Fix Checked.

Be sure to get back to us with an update.

Ok, have done all that has been suggested here (except for Java) and thanks for your help.

Yes, have contacted BigFish Games in mid-September but have had no reply as yet.

I have just this moment tried to play 3 games, 2 trial downloads and 1 paid game.

The first game "Disney Princess: Castle Party" came up with this error message:
Sa3d Engine::initDirect3D:Failed to create Direct3D device.

The 2nd game "Little Shop of Treasures 2" came up with this error message:
Could not start graphics engine.  Make sure you have 9.0 installed and Direct D is enabled.

The 3rd game (the paid one) "Moorhuhn - Jewel of Darkness" with this error message:
Error: access violation at 0x0040D72A (tried to read from 0x00000000), program terminated.

Start the DirectX configuration utility by going to Start, Run, then typing
dxdiag.exe
Select the Display tab.
Ensure that both DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration are Enabled; if they aren't, click Enable.
Click Exit.

suejay, what video card do you have?  If you don't know, use a program such as Everest or PC Wizard to help you find out.

And while you're in Dxdiag, you should go ahead and click on the Test Direct3D button to run through through the tests.  Let us know the results.

Ok, I checked that both DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration were both enabled.  I then went through the tests for the Direct3D and came up with this error message:

"Test failed at step 8 (creating 3D Device):HRESULT=0x80004005(Generic failure)"

I downloaded PC Wizard for my video card with these results:
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 9600 Series (V350)

Thanks again for your help:)

The drivers you need for your graphics card are here...
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/gamesite/7-9_xp32_dd_52443.exe

I'm not a GPU expert, but I believe you should be able to handle the graphics in those games.  I suspect your DirectX may have been corrupted.  Try to redownload it and re-install it...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

You may need to remove your current version first.

Go ahead and try these out and let us know how it goes.
