Front USB only takes powered devices?
« on: October 08, 2007, 12:58:36 AM »
Hey guys,

heres the problem. When I place even a normal USB Flash disk into my from USB ports nothing happens, no lights, no nothing. However, when I place my MP3 player in there, with its AAA battery in there, it works fine  :(

Another weird thing is that in the Dev Manager, it shows 3 USB hubs (Correct) but 2 have 3 ports(not 2) and one says it has 6!(The front ones)

i am using a
MSI 648-F NEO-L Mobo
768MB 266 DDR
iCute 0408SL (Silver though) http://icute.com.tw/english/0408SL.html

The back 4 ports have no problems whatsoever but would like the front ones for convenience :)

Due to the CHEAP nature of the MBoard manufacturers including yours front panel USB ports are notorious for being underpowered...

you probably have one or two free usb headers on your motherboard...

you can get an internal USB hub. you can either get one that installs into the 5.25" drive bay or the 3.5" drive bay.

or, if you don't want to go through the trouble of that, get an external powered USB hub and plug it into one of the back ports.

Exactly what, other than irritation, did that post add to this thread?
