    Strage thing around USB.

Does anyone know what this is?

That thing around the usb cable.
I know there already was a topic with this question but I forgot and I couldn't find it as I don't know the name.
Do you know what that thing is good for?
And if it is a magnet or a spool or something else.

    Thanks in advance

    Jonas ;)

    EDIT: beter picture

Do you mean the little twisted thing that keeps the cable tidy?

I would called it a cable tie or tidy or clip.

    Usually I use twist ties

Here is a little man made of green ones.

They are good for lots of things. The green ones are used by gardeners a lot.

It is neither a magnet nor a spool.

that's to help cut out interference on the cable.

Oh sorry! It's called an "RF interference suppressor" or "RF filter" and its purpose is to stop radio interference from the computer being broadcast by the cable acting as an antenna. You see them on all kinds of computer cables.

It contains a material called "ferrite". Here is one designed to be attached to a cable. The ferrite cylinder is split in two halves, but the one in your picture was moulded on when the cable was made so the cable was threaded through an unsplit ferrite cylinder.

        moulded RF filter
