Sound Fails
« on: October 12, 2007, 10:14:44 AM »
Whenever I plug a USB device such as an MP3 player or an external DVD drive, my sound is lost completely within 5-30 minutes unless I unplug my USB devices.  Another symptom is that I can only stream 2 seconds of YouTube video before it completely stops.  I'm using SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio for my soundcard and Intel 82865G graphics controller.  Any idea on why this is happening, and how I can fix this?  Thanks.

I'd like to add that I tried upgrading my sound card driver, but it says I've got the latest.

I assume, this is on-board chip?

Even so, driver may be corrupted.

    Download newest driver, anyway.
Go to Control Panel, uninstall current driver, "remove" your sound controller (SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio).
Restart Windows, let it find "new" hardware, and its "new" driver.

Does this also happen with USB device plugged in, or regardless?

Glad to know that someone has the same problem as me. I don't know much about computers. but the symptoms seem to be the same as yours Violator (Well.. I'm actually not too sure about the USB symptom because my sound usually doesn't work anyways. So I can't tell the difference) Yea. If someone can help that would be great. Thx

Did you try update your USB drivers, then?

Worked for a long while (a couple hours) before it failed.  Any other ideas?

    Sound, or video?
When you don't have any USB device plugged in, do BOTH, sound and video work fine?

Sound, for files on my computer.  When I don't have a USB device plugged in, it works fine (if the cable is plugged into the computer, but not plugged into the device, it works fine also).

When I streaming something (like on YouTube) and 'the failure happens', then both the sound and video stop, I can only stream the first two seconds of the video.
