Ok. I created an 11gb partition with partition magic 8.0. It told me to restart, so I did.  after I restarted it gave me some error like partion magic something. After that it looked like it was starting up normally. but when it got to the blue screen with the little windows logo, it just stayed there.

Just exactly where and how did you create this 11 GB partition?

I created it at the end of my 300gb harddrive.  I onlhy had like 130gb left on it.  I already tried safe mode and I get as far as the little windows logo with the blue screen.  Also the error that I got when I first restarted does not show anymore.

Did you shrink the partition that was there already, to make 11 GB worth of empty space, and then create the new parttion in that empty space?

I don't know what you mean by shrink?. All I did was create a 11gb partition out of like 127gb that I had left in my 300gb partition.  If thats shrinking. I remember that it asked me where I wanted to put the partition. It recommended I put at the end, so that's what I did.

Uh-oh! Partition Magic 8 does not support partition size above 160 GB. I think you may have trashed the filesystem on your 320 GB drive.

I noticed also you have a virtual DVD partition which should be unmounted whenever creating/resizing partitions...
You may need to backup your data and start fresh...

May need to bolt the stable door now that Dobbin has had it away on his hooves?

so there's no way of fixing this without a clean install.  could I do something through linux.  Becaues I don't have another harddrive to copy my files to, but I can buy one.

It would be cheaper to buy a DVD burner..currently around 40 bucks @ newegg.com if your in the States...
But another HDD isn't a bad idea either.
I recommend Acronis True Image for drive backups.

            Excellent.
Then you have a backup solution built in...

A firm rule: never, never use Partition Magic on a disk with data that you value without backing up that data first!
