Display only on HDTV
« on: October 16, 2007, 03:03:20 PM »
Last night I shut my computer down in Clone mode, with my HDTV as the primary display. Now, today, I can't select my computer monitor in the display settings. It won't even show up, and I can't select clone, or change the primary display. What can I do to get the screen to display on my computer monitor again? Thanks! Oh, and I have an Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT.

If this is XP, or Vista, did you try System Restore?

Sorry, forgot to put that in, running on Windows XP. I have not tried a system restore, I always hate doing that. Is there no other way for my computer to recognize my monitor?

You may want to try re-installing your video drivers,

Ok, uninstalled video drivers and updated them, no luck, tried a system restore, also no luck. When the computer rebooted it said that nothing had been changed.

Did you disconnect your TV from your monitor?

If you mean disconnect from my computer, then yes. The 7600 GT has dual DVI ports, one of which is connected to my tv, the other to my monitor. I tried unplugging the TV but still no signal to the monitor.

I'm hoping they weren't disconnected while the computer was on...

No, I shut down the computer, removed the DVI plug that goes to the TV, then booted up the computer. What should I do? I've tried everything that I can think of, drivers, system restore, unplugging the video card.

No, the monitor does not display in the device manager. I do not believe it came with any drivers. Is it possible that my monitor died over night? I don't have another computer to test it with, so I can't check it's functionality.

It doesn't matter. If there were no drivers, your monitor still would be listed in Device Manager, just with Windows generic driver.
Bad cable?
