Removing a dual boot
« on: October 17, 2007, 08:37:10 AM »
I recently added dual boot with XP to my vista computer, unfortunately my manufacturer does not have driver support for XP and I do not have the time to find them. Is their any free-way to merge two partitions? Also, if I format my XP partition, will it also format my C:? I cannot have my C: formatted along with my xp partition...

What manuf. does not have hardware support for XP ? ?
It's been around for awhile now...
If XP is on the D: partition and you format it it will not affect the Vista install...except you will have to edit the boot.ini file so the XP choice no longer shows up at boot time...
As far as reclaiming the space on D: you can either just use it for storage or use a third party partition tool to merge the partitions...however i would not trust this method unless you have a complete system backup in place should anything go awry.

Actually, he wouldn't need a third party partition tool with Vista, would he?  Windows Vista can manage your partition resizing.  See How to resize a partition in Windows Vista.
