    « on: October 19, 2007, 08:47:01 PM »
Im wanting to start building my first computer here in the next few months (after Christmas).  I want to get start getting some of the parts for it like the motherboard and processor.  Whats a good motherboard that supports a Duo or Quad Processor (havent decided which one I want yet) and supports at least 4 GB DDR2 RAM?

I dont know awhole lot about motherboards in general.  Im trying to learn whats good and what manufacturers are the best of motherboards.

Any suggestions on what type i should get.  Let me know.

    Thnx in advance

or at least a website that I can get good deals on?

www.newegg.com  has a good reputation, and lots of info on the items they sell.   Check out their website.

Here's another one to look through:  http://www.gigaparts.com/index.php

www.tomshardware.com   -  you can spend a lot of time perusing the info there.

For the good people here to help you though,  you really should state what country you are in.    For example,  newegg.com might be useless to you - I don't know if they ship to countries other than the U.S. or not.

Next, say as much as you can think of  about how to intend to use this computer.    Intense gaming?    just web browsing?    or...?    anything you can think of might be helpful.

You mentioned 4 G of ram.     Why are you planning on that?
And, what operating system(s) do you intend to use?

        .

Not sure how I missed this, posts like this I'm usually straight into . . .
Newegg doesn't ship outside the US, they're great for pricing and info though.
If you can give us a rough budget, and a purpose for the computer, we can help you decide on everything you might want.
Without either of those, it's impossible to help.

Im in North Carolina, I want it for gaming (thats y so much RAM) and just for an extra computer also just to learn from building a computer.  Im not gonna put any less than 500 GB HDD in it.  Im going to dual-boot it with XP and Vista.  My budget is ok.  Im not planning on putting the best of the best of everything.  But im going to get one or 2 pieces at a time and go from there.
