startup frozen on loading your personal settings

When I turn on the computer it gets to administrator-loading your personal settings.  It doesn;t go any further.  It freezes here.  I tried safe mode and it freezes at the same location.
I am using windows xp, 1.7 Ghz, 512 MB, 80 GB,

    Need...more...info...gasp  :P

    antivirus & antispyware protection / service packs installed / when did it start happening / did it ever work right / installed any new software / hardware?

      how long have you left the computer doing this to see if it eventually works?
      Is the light on the computer indicating activity during this time?
