I recently created a RAID 1 using two 400GB WD SATA hard drives and a HighPoint RocketRAID 1520 controller. The array is not my boot drive and is used only to store music, movies, pictures, etc on a WinXP system.
The problem I am seeing is that any file written to the RAID has a chance of being slightly corrupted. Pictures will often times have the colors slightly wrong or entire sections of the photo will be shifted out of place. Music files often contain blips, beeps, and glitches. I am sometimes able to create an error-free file on the RAID array after re-writing the data to the disk.
I am led to think the problem lies with the controller. It was pretty cheap (~$60) but I think it should still be able to perform properly. Does anyone have a suggestion? Changing some settings on the controller, updating firmware, etc? Anyone else have a similar problem?
