smss. exe application cannot be run in Win 32 mode.

I've reinstalled the istallation disk that came with the program I
ve gone into Bios and dhanged Driver 1 to auto
I've gone to device manager to update drivers

Still get error meassage that I typed in the forst line.

What exactly are you trying to do, when you're getting that error?

When I start up I get this message, so I was trying to fix this problem.  I also get the message primary driver 1 not found and will not finish starting.  I need to press F1 to continue start up.

Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it run til completion and re-boot...
