Vista and the Sims

I am confused because I can play more graphics intensive games like Oblivion or World of Warcraft... but when I try to play the sims I get a blank screen.  When I open the program, I hear noise from the pre-game ads (like for EA) for a minute and then the screen goes blank.  can anybody help me?

Can we get more info about your system?  What kind of video card and things like that.  I'm assuming you're running Vista based on the title of the thread.
