Gateway not starting!
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:45:55 PM »
I've got a Gateway that won't start...been modified a bit, here are the specs

AMD Athlon X2 3800+ 2.0GHz Dual-Core Processor
Standard MoBo and 250GB HDD (Not really sure what each are)
Antec TruPower Trio 650w PSU
eVGA GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB GPU
G.Skill 2x1GB DDR-400 Memory w/ Heat Spreader
Extra Thermaltake 80mm Case Fan
Windows Media Center 2005

When I press the start button the Start LED comes on for a fraction of a second and the computer does not start then a few seconds later it will do it again and again until I let go. No fans or beeps, nothing except for a pop in the speakers like it's trying to boot. The PSU, GPU, and Memory are only 2 months old, the Computer itself is a year and a half. It's been difficult to start recently, having to hold the button in for 2 seconds or so before boot. Then I had a power outage 2 days ago, the comp restarted fine, turned it off to install a new Keyboard and Mouse and now it wont start. Could the power outage have had something to do with it? The Comp is backed by a surge protector, if that helps.

Unplug the machine from the wall.
On the rear of the PSU there is an on off switch...toggle this 5 or 6 times.
( Make sure this is not the Voltage switch which is RED )
Then do the same with the computer power button.
Plug everything back in and see...

Thanks for the reply, Patio! Well I pulled everything out and plugged it into the wall in the kitchen as a last ditch effort before trying my old PSU...and it started right up! Put it back and plugged everything back in, nothing, plugged it straight into the wall and it fired right up. I'm assuming that my surge protector either has too much stuff on it or its failing so I am going tonight to buy a new one.  ;)

This couldn't be better news...
It means the surge protector did it's job...( they don't always )
And it means the machine itself should be fine...
Congrats !
