Steam connection lost - Please help
    « on: November 21, 2007, 04:06:06 PM »
    Hi guys!

About a week ago when i was about to play Cs 1.6 i went to the same server i always go to, and after a few minutes i got an error message

    "Steam Connection Lost"

First i thought that it was some kind of ordinary lagg, so i went back to the server, but it happend again and again, on every different server i went to.

Now that has happend everytime ive wanted to play since then.

Yes i have re-installed it, still the same.
No there are no new updates available
Yes i have tried restarting steam and try again, not working.

Now i have a 4mb internet, connected to wireless modem with a 20 meter cable.

I have played this game for about 2 years, first time this happends...

    Any solutions?!

    Thanx in advance!

Try unplugging the modem and plugging it back in after 10 seconds.

Your computer is connected directly to the modem? You don't have a router in between or any other networking equipment?
If you don't it could be a problem with the modem, or your ISP. It could even be a problem with the cable, although I would think the connection problems wouldn't be isolated to just Steam then.

        Get TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
Put a "tick" into "Optimal settings", click on "Apply Changes".

          Its directly to the modem.

The TCP thing might have worked, i went playing, and got disconnecten after aprox 5 min but then went back to same server and nothing happend for 15-20 minutes, strange... :D

But if i have a 4mb internet, what do i set the connection speed to in TCP?

            try this

please exit Steam and delete the following files from your Steam directory:

            Steam.dll
            SteamUI.dll
            ClientRegistry.Blob
By default, the files may be found at C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\ or C:\Program Files\Steam\ (the location on your machine will vary if you specified a different installation folder, or if you have moved your Steam installation).

Sadly, Steam has been having a lot of connection issues lately since releasing the latest update and I suspect it may be due to one of their servers being faulty.  It's causing quite a few problems for dial-up users and a lot of lower-end broadband users.  I would suggest contacting their support or stopping by their forums, but they've got to have some of the worst service I've ever encountered.

Are you running Steam in Offline Mode by any chance?
If you completely uninstall Steam and delete all of the files and then reinstall, are you able to update Steam without any problems?
Have you installed any new software recently?  Many programs interfere with this programming nightmare.
Are your modem drivers up to date?

                OK thanx. Now:

I dont think my broadband is low-end (4 mb ) (max dl rate about 480 kb/s
                Nope not steam offline
I have uninstalled steam and all the files, and yes it can update normally.
Lates was probobly Norton Internet Security 2008 (but the firewall isnt the problem, i have put that it does not stop anything that has to do with steam or cs)
I dont know about the modem drivers :/
