AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
« on: November 26, 2007, 02:11:01 AM »
I have AVG Free Anti-Spyware & AVG Free Virus Scan installed.  When I run the Anti Spyware program it runs for about 5 mins then shuts down my computer & reboots.  I've run Adware & Registrybooster 2 and they do the samething.  My Virus Scan finds nothing, neither does Spybot-Search & Destroy.  Has anyone got any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

Try running it in safe mode.

I've even tried that as well.  Normally problems can be found running in safe mode, but not this one.  So some sort of file is loading in normal mode & safe mode that the Anti-Spyware doesn't like.  I've even searched for unsigned registry files.  Comes up with 2.  imjpcic.dll & ntvdmd.dll.  I've looked on the net about these files and from what I've read they are drivers.  I'm not sure if these files could be the problem.

Have you tried sfc /scannow (System File Checker)

The only reference i found for this on the Grisoft Forums was related to a bad download...
Try removing it in Add/Remove and grab a fresh DLoad.

I use to use SFC when I had Win 98, but I'm damned if I can find it on Win XP.  Could please tell me how to run it?  I went to the site you listed, but I can't understand any of it.
I also went Add/Remove programs and removed AVG Anti spyware and d/l'd it again.  Updated it and then ran a scan.  It scanned the memory/processes fine.  But as soon as it started to scan the registry files, it shut down the computer & rebooted.

I did that and all I got was flash of a black screen, similar to the Dos prompt.  Is that all it's suppose to do?

Actually, I missed a switch:
sfc /scannow (<---watch for "space")

I went to the Dos prompt and ran it.  It replaced several .dll files.  I'll try and run my Anti-Spyware and see if it completes the scan.

I did the SFC, but I think my version of Windows is to updated cause it kept asking for .dll files.  I clicked retry, but I don't know if they were replaced.  On completion I ran my Anti-Spyware.  It got alittle bit further and I got my hopes up, but they were shattered when my computer yet again.  Shut down & rebooted.  This is really frustrating me ???

it kept asking for .dll files
which means some files are corrupted.
I guess, you're due for Windows reinstall.

Sounds like a corruption in your registry.  Have you been playing around with regedit lately?  Next time you scan, pay close attention and see if you can tell which registry entry causes this problem.  Also, just for the heck of it, go through the steps in this guide and see if it helps at all...

Actually it sounds like he doesn't have SP2 installed...
