How do I erase old URLs from my addess bar?
« on: November 17, 2007, 01:27:47 PM »
The essential facts:
1.  I use XP.
2.  I have deleted DAT files and my browser history.
3.  Yet some old URLs will not go away.

What should I do?

Thanks.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/mrublaster.html

wot exactly does this do? does it just erase the internet sites in ur address bar? becoz i have a similar prob...i have deleted my internet history, yet some sites, even ones that i visited months ago, still show when i type a letter in the address bar! Also can u delete this software after you've used it? thanks

MRU-Blaster is a privacy cleaning tool that scans your computer for MRU (most recently used) entries, cookies and Internet cache files and offers to remove them. MRU entries are left by almost any software, they are used to allow you to access recently used files, documents etc. While they are convenient for most users, they can also reveal details of what you ve been doing, what documents you have worked on etc. For those that would rather not keep this information accessible, MRU-Blaster will do the job. It can detect more than 30,000 MRU items and quickly scans your system, then presents you with a list. Additional features include cookie cleaning (with exclude option), secure file deletion, index.dat file deletion and more.

What you are seeing is the autocomplete feature in your browser...turn it off.

Autocomplete History

Right click the Internet Explore Icon from the desktop and click Properties.

Choose the Content tab > Choose Autocomplete > Clear Forms.

Purge IE is a free program for removing your surfing tracks from your computer.

IE Address Bar Editor is a freeware program that could be very useful if you would like to alter the links that appear in the drop down menu on the address bar in IE.

=====

A more direct approach for single entries (backup the registry before making changes)

1) Click on Start, Run
2) Type REGEDIT and press Enter or Click OK
3) Click on the pluses(+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_CURRENT_USER
* Software
* Microsoft
* Internet Explorer
* Typed URLs

4) Right-click in the NAME column and delete the desired URL.
5) Close the Registry Editor
6) Close all open Internet Explorer windows
7) Reopen Internet Explorer and the unwanted URL in the address dropdown list should be gone.

=====

Firefox

To delete individual URLs. Simply drop down the address bar list and highlight the unwanted URL. Then press DELETE on the keyboard to delete the individual unwanted address.
