DVD drive

I just hooked up a DVD drive and it will do everything BUT play DVDs....does anyone have any ideas as to the problem or the solution? I would appreciate the help.

'Play' DVDs, so I assume you mean movies?

If that's the case, you most likely need a DVD codec, required to play movies. Some drives come with them, some don't.

I have ME and how do I get a codec? I think I need somthing to do with decoding?

    I always have to ask...but what kind of DVD's are these ? ?
    Factory?
    DLoads burned to DVD ?
    Copies ?

    Ok so the PC I need it on doesnt have Internet but can I download it on this one and load it onto a CDR and download it onto the other one?

    The movies are standard DVDs from the store...

    Yes, you can use VLC, but here is another (and I think better) option. Download The Codecs from here:

    http://www.theorica.net/download.htm

    and download "The Codecs 5.0 - 9x/ME/2000/XP (English) "

    Unzip it and run the program. I have never had it fail.

    You do not need to download the language packs.  ;)

    So I downloaded the Codecs onto a disk put it in my other PC (the one with the problem) and it didnt auto run it so I went to my computer and opened it and it trys to open it in PDF form....which doesnt work and doesnt do me any good.....(sorry I am a computer idiot) :)

      When you say your DVD drive does everything...What is it that it doesn't do? Are you saying it loads games ok? And movies are the problem. Please be abit more precise and i am sure i could help.
