CD-DVD ROM
« on: November 19, 2007, 07:23:27 AM »
My CD ROM drive will play a CD but not a DVD.When I put a DVD in to play it,it says UNknown DVD.
I am using Microsoft Media Player.
My System:
Windows XP Home
CPU Intel Celeron D Processor 356
Chipset ATI Radeon Xpress200
16x multiformat dual-layer DVD RW
Media Reader 9-in-1 Digital Media Manager
Video ATI Radeon X300
Sound 6-channel[5.1] high definition audio.
I did install a capture card: AVerMedia DVD EZMaker Gold. It has worked OK on capture,I captured an old tape to my hard drive and then burned it to a DVD. When I tried to play it,it just came up unknown DVD,it also said the same thing when I tried to play a DVD movie.

i might suggest VLC media player, for all your DVD playing needs...

if VLC doesnt recogize it, it may be a hardware failure.

    You may need decoder:

Went here and seems like I got side tracked and didn't get much. I'm going to try it again and see if I can get what I want.

    Thanks

If it is a CD drive it will NEVER play DVD's. Please clarify what you are working with.

Are these commercial DVD's? If so do they match the reason of your DVD decoder software? Where in the world are you?

This is my first time trying to capture and burn to dvd's. What knowledge I have on computers is self taught so I have so problems doing some things.
Not sure what you mean about commercial DVD's. I was having problems with my Media player and I then downloaded a codec program [K-Lite Codec Pack] Media Player is working fine now, but I still can't burn any thing. The program I am using is Cyberlink Power Producer 3.2.
You ask where I am,I live in Allegan,Michigan.
